As an Australian Certified Organic Retailer, (#10232R), Fruit to boot carries a comprehensive range of in-season organically grown fruit and vegetables, whilst also providing many varieties of conventional and chemical-free produce.

Complementing this, is a large selection of organic canned and dry goods, including tomatoes, legumes, pastas, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, confectionery, cereals, corn chips, fruit juices, dairy goods and oils.

Other general products range from sauces, marinades and spreadable fruits, to fruit bars, olives, and cholesterol free chocolates.

Fruit gift baskets made to order is a speciality here, and, where possible, out of the ordinary items may be specially sourced. They even have a frequent shopper program for valued customers.

Located in Semaphore Road, east of Military Road, the shop is well away from the bustle of the café strip, yet close enough to wander down for a coffee or a stroll along the beach. Fruit to Boot is instantly recognisable with its brightly painted fruit fascia, large awning blinds, and bright flags on the verandah posts.

Surprisingly, the store is not open to the footpath as one expects with most produce shops. The principal reason behind this decision was to reduce contamination from dust and exhaust emissions from the roadway. Makes a lot of sense!

Upon entering the shop, one is taken by the colour and décor, the feeling of space, and a deliberately uncluttered produce display. Slate-floored aisles are wide, and slowly turning stainless steel ceiling fans create a soft breeze throughout.

Proprietor Deborah Rees is passionate, and committed to the furthering of sustainable agriculture and organic produce, and this is reflected in her service and assistance to customers. In support of the environment, Deborah has phased out the use of plastic bags, using instead, small cornstarch bags which will break down more rapidly. For those customers without their own bags, orders can be taken home in cardboard boxes; these can be re-used or returned, and ultimately recycled. Additionally, Fruit to Boot is the only drop-off point in Semaphore for all coloured plastics and items that cannot be collected by councils. For a gold coin donation, washed plastics can be left here for correct disposal. Surplus funds are channelled to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.

All in all, this shop is well worth a visit! You will not be disappointed.
